Throughput analysis and optimal configuration of 802.11e EDCA

چکیده
One of the main challenges with 802.11e EDCA is the configuration of the open parameters of this mechanism, namely AIFS, CWmin, CWmax and TXOP_limit. In this paper, we address the issue of finding the optimal configuration of these parameters in order to maximize the throughput performance of the WLAN. We first present a model to analyze the throughput performance of an EDCAWLAN as a function of these parameters. Then, based on this model, we search for the optimal EDCA configuration. We find out that, surprisingly, one of the EDCA parameters, the AIFS, is not used in the optimal configuration. We provide closed formulae, based on some approximations, for the configuration of the parameters CWmin and CWmax. The configuration of the TXOP_limit parameter is discussed based on a delay analysis provided elsewhere. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Throughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories
IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...
متن کاملA Novel Performance Evaluation Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA
IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the most popular standard used in WLAN to support QoS for various real-time service flows. Based on DCF, EDCA introduces some new QoS parameters, which are defined by IEEE 802.11e standard. But how to adjust these parameters is still worth investigating. In the paper, we present a novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11e ...
متن کاملAnalytic Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA
This paper investigates the analytic performance of IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) under saturated traffic load. Compared with the existing analytical models of EDCA, we obtain transmission probability τi by applying the renewal theory and provide simple but accurate delay model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA by considering the possibility that a station’s backoff procedure may ...
متن کاملModeling the IEEE 802.11e EDCA for MAC parameter optimization
A model of the IEEE 802.11e EDCA function is presented. The model is built to be simple, but providing a clear description of the inter-relations between the EDCA MAC parameters (AIFS, CWmin, CWmax and TXOP values) and the traffic flow characteristics (packet arrival rate and packet length). The model is intended to be used as an abstraction of the IEEE 802.11e MAC protocol in WLAN flow level s...
متن کاملOn the Use of Rate Configuration in the Interoperation between DiffServ and 802.11e EDCA
This paper investigates rate configuration of the Expedited Forwarding (EF) class of Differentiated Services (DiffServ) when used with 802.11e EDCA. The rate configuration problem is presented, and several approaches are tested and evaluated in order to solve the problem. Results reveal that the contention window makes rate configuration very hard for the highest priority class (AC_VO) in 802.1...
